When I first drew this piece back in 2010, I had no idea it would prove to be so prophetic. It was basically just expressing my reaction to the toy version of the 11th Doctor’s Sonic Screwdriver (which I had dutifully collected.) Somehow the images I’d seen online and in the show didn’t fully convey how much larger it was than the previous model, and the pop-out claw that had been added just seemed to push it over the top.
Little did I imagine than that 3 years later the Doctor Who 50th Anniversary special would be focused primarily on pairing these two Doctors, and that there would be a moment where there screwdrivers come out and… well…. from what I understand they make pretty much this joke. We’ll see how close they come when I see the actual episode with everyone else this Saturday, November 23rd!

This was the cover art for the CONvergence 2013 Souvenir Program Guide. Years ago I had drawn the CONvergence mascot Connie as all 10 of the Doctors from Doctor Who. Now as Matt Smith is preparing to leave the show, I still hadn’t had the occasion to add the 11th Doctor to that series. Clearly, this was the time! I arranged Connie as the Eleven Doctors into a clock face around the Seal of Rassilon, with Connie’s creator Professor Max in the #12 position. Will Professor Max be the 12th Doctor? Time will tell…
We had a new system for badges this year, with pre-printed plastic badges in a horizontal format, rather than laminating paper badges designed in a vertical format. The best outcome of this is that the badges now are friendly to the Badge Ribbon tradition popular at Gallifrey One and other conventions! Of course, this badge shape creates some interesting challenges for badge art. Here’s what I came up with for CONvergence 2013!
Connie as the Conductor from Thomas the Tank Engine
Connie as Harry Potter
Connie Mark 2 as Number Two from The Prisoner
Professor Max as Rose Tyler, Connie as… apparently SEVERAL of the Doctors, and Connie Mark 2 as a Cyberman
What a crazy month! It seems like just yesterday I was at the C2E2 convention in Chicago, then it was Free Comic Book Day at The Source Comics and Games, last weekend it was MCBA Springcon, and now I’m getting ready to head off to Denver Comic Con – and I can’t wait! I’ll be joining my Young Justice partner-in-crime Greg Weisman at the Denver show, so it’ll be a great opportunity to get us BOTH to sign all those Young Justice comic books and prints! I’m really looking forward to this, and it’ll be my first visit to Denver if you don’t count layovers at the airport.
At my table, I am happy to sign anything you bring me! I will be doing commission sketches, and I will have comics and Young Justice trade paperbacks for sale.
In addition to my Young Justice prints, I’ll have plenty of other 11″×17″ prints for $20 each, some of which you can see here.
And for the Doctor Who

We’ll be filling the Minnesota State Fairgrounds Grandstand

I’ll be there selling prints , Young Justice and Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes trade paperbacks, and doing commission sketches from 10am to 5pm both days!
I’ll be selling my 11″×17″ prints
(all the same ones I just had at the C2E2 convention
) for $20 each

I had a great time at Gallifrey One this past February, so I couldn’t be more delighted to announce that I’ll be returning in 2014 as a Guest of the convention! 2013 may be the 50th Anniversary of Doctor Who, but 2014 is the 25th Anniversary of the world’s largest and longest-running annual Doctor Who convention.
Gallifrey One: 25 Glorious Years will be held February 14-16 2014 at the Los Angeles Airport Mariott Hotel. I’m excited to be joining the already-impressive slate of guests they’ve announced for 2014, including Colin Baker (The Sixth Doctor), Katy manning (Jo Grant), John Levine (Sgt. Benton), Richard Franklin (Sgt. Mike Yates), Frazer Hines (Jamie McCrimmon), Paul Cornell (Writer, “Human Nature”), Gary Russell (Novelist/Script Editor) and MORE!
I’ll be announcing what panels and signings I’ll be doing with the convention gets closer, but in the mean time I’ll have to see how many new Doctor Who prints I can get done by then!
You can always read up on all my planned convention appearances for the coming year on my Appearances Page!
