OUT NOW – Young Justice #19

Young Justice #19

Young Justice #19

Out today is YOUNG JUSTICE #19.
Will the rise of Gorilla City mean the fall of Young Justice? (SPOILER: No it won’t)

Despite what the solicitation says, I didn’t draw this one! I did the cover, but they wanted more padding in the schedule as we moved into the Season 2/Young Justice: Invasion phase of the series, so they had me skip from #18 right to drawing #20. I drew the cover (which is a favorite), but the interiors were drawn by Luciano Vecchio, and the story is by Greg Weisman.

Next issue the Season 2 characters are introduced to the comic, as Dick Grayson becomes Nightwing, Blue Beetle, Wonder Girl, Bumble Bee, Lagoon Boy, Beast Boy and Tim Drake as Robin join the team! It’s coming in just 3 weeks on September 19!

Until then, issues #0-19 are currently available and #20 is due out September 19! Pick an issue up in digital form or at your local comic shop!

Sooo many apes… and they look surprisingly individual. Good job on that. I really liked the emotion in the faces.

Well if you’re referring to the cover, thank you! As for the interior of #19, that was by a different artist – although I was trying for the same thing in part one of the story (Young Justice #18) which I *did* draw.

Does that mean you usually work on up to 4 issues at once?

Right now, for example – seems you are inking #21, designing characters for #22, working on a cover for #23/24?

At any given time time focused on penciling or inking a given issue, and then once a month I do a cover for an issue a couple in advance of the one I’m drawing interiors for. Usually, I do character designs that have to be approved as the first step in working on interior art for an issue, but if the character first appears on a cover then the design needs to be done and approved before I can do that cover, which means I may be designing a character for a story *several* months before I get to draw that issue.

Thanks, Chris. There’s both a “yes” and “no” in your answer…I think. I meant in general when you both doing cover and interior work in succession. But the answer seems to depend on the load of new characters you have to design and if they are on the cover or not. It seems mind boggling that you’re doing all this on your own.

Yojimbo – the reason I answered the way I did is because it varies depending on the amount of design work needed for an issue, and when the next cover is due. It can vary a lot what I’m working on at any one time. Did I mention I’m also drawing stories for Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes? :)

How do I not have a higher profile?
