Young Justice in brief
A problem-solving conversation with the creative team of Young Justice about the issue currently in production yielded this photo. I wish I could say more at this time…

From A Speeding Bullet – Comix Reviews & Opinions:
“Christopher Jones’ artwork is a big draw for the book. It fits with the show’s style, but it stands out on its own in a way a number of DC’s other cartoon tie-in books don’t. Other books mimic the aesthetics of the shows they’re based upon, but for Young Justice, Jones doesn’t mimic but adapt. A sense of motion, an impression of energy and presence, is pervasive throughout the issue, and a number of panels, particularly the climactic confrontation, are kinetic. His actual compositions are very straightforward and his layouts are often simple; this is absolutely not a bad thing. Jones uses these often basic layouts to streamline the action and experiment with perspective in a fashion that supports the script while also expanding visually upon it. “
Aw, shucks.

I just saw previews of some of the color pages from Young Justice #11, that’s next month’s issue, featuring Ra’s Al Ghul, Batman and a bunch of other characters I love to draw (yes, that includes the regular Young Justice team).
Zac Atkinson is doing his regular terrific job, and I was particularly struck by page two. I’d love to be able to show it right now, but the powers that be seem to get upset by that sort of thing. You’ll know the page I’m talking about when you see the page with this on it:
And it’s the issue with this on the cover (also with colors by Zac):
Time to break down the creation of another cover! This time it’s Young Justice #10, the second half of our Captain Atom murder mystery story! Last issue featured Captain Atom on the cover and no action, so there was a desire to see conflict with our costumed villain, who appeared at the end of the previous issue.
The villain in question is Rako (aka The Cambodian), and you can read more about the redesign of this character in a previous blog post. Once again I was designing a cover before the script for the story, so I didn’t have anything to draw from other than being told there was a fight with The Cambodian at an Asian-styled mansion, and that Superboy being cut by the Cambodian’s sword was a major story point.
You can read a 4-page preview here, and then pick up the comic in digital form or at your local comic shop.
I’ll be doing a Commentary blog entry on this issue in a couple of weeks, and will be doing another “Creating a Cover” entry for Young Justice #11 in a month’s time!
