Good issue. I still love bird Gar. The scene with him flapping about trying to get attention near the end was very effective. Kylstar looks great too.
But what happened to Icon? He was on the preview cover, but now he’s nowhere to be seen.
By Christopher Jones, October 17, 2012 @ 5:09 pm
I’m not sure what exactly is up with Icon. I’m awaiting clarification and official word from DC Comics just like everyone else. I hope we hear something soon.

The more I see of Brainiac, the more I like him. And did I spot Perry White there, at the hole outside the Daily Planet?
By Christopher Jones, October 17, 2012 @ 5:10 pm
Yep, that was Perry. He keeps popping up when he doesn’t have dialog or when I don’t have much opportunity to portray him as anything more than “middle-aged white male in business suit.”
By Christopher Jones, October 17, 2012 @ 5:15 pm
Regarding Perry – you’d think a “Great Ceasar’s Ghost” wouldn’t have been out of line!

Does Min K. Su have a website/blog/twitter/facebook? Maybe fans can also ask Min about Icon being only on the preview cover.
Was that Vartox and Maxima among the captured assets?!
By Christopher Jones, October 18, 2012 @ 12:58 am
I don’t have Min K. Su’s contact information. I suspect he’s in the same position as I am in that you’d have to ask DC about Icon being removed from the cover.
Regarding Vartox and Maxima, keep reading upcoming issues…

Double Nertz! Got a time machine? heh.
It was a preview cover, so maybe Min made a minor error of including Icon and it was corrected in time for print… but in times like this, can’t blame some for adding it to the Milestone rights theory in regards to DC Nation’s own vanishing act.

Was that Mammoth and Amazo in there or did I mistake Blockbuster and Tommy Terror for them?
By Christopher Jones, November 4, 2012 @ 12:01 am
It must be Blockbuster and Tommy Terror you’re seeing. Mammoth and Amazo aren’t in there. Which is a shame. I’d love to draw Amazo again!

Haha, well I want to see more of Kylstar for one. Also, neat design for Brainiac’s ship – incorporating his colors and symbol.
By Christopher Jones, November 4, 2012 @ 1:37 am
Thanks for the kind words about Brainiac’s ship. You’ll be seeing plenty more Brainiac, his ship, and Kylstar in the upcoming issues. It’s been a lot of fun getting to do so many original designs as opposed to following existing models from the show – although the designs from the show are pretty fantastic!

Those spam bots love your blog…
But so no comment from DC about Icon not being on the final cover?
By Christopher Jones, November 5, 2012 @ 9:09 pm
Yes, yes they do.
I’ve not heard or seen anything official from DC about Icon on the cover to YJ #21.

Been reading it again and the Justice Leaguers that appear look really great this time around, more on-model than before, imo. Superman looks rather slick. That one bit where he was subtly looking off panel at Draaga was well done.
By the way, you have 2012 instead of 2013 listed in the release date for the third trade paperback Creature Features.
By Christopher Jones, November 8, 2012 @ 12:21 am
Oh thanks. I was trying to get the League members to look their best, and I’m trying to do that by keeping them on model but cheating enough in the direction of my own style so that I can put some flourish on the individual panels. By the way, that bit where Superman is looking off before going over to look up at Draaga was a scripted bit, so kudos to Mr. Weisman. I just tried to play it subtley, so that it was more of a detail for those paying close attention rather than the focus of the panel.
By Yojimbo, November 11, 2012 @ 10:43 pm
The effort shows. It’s always great to see more of the Justice League even if they’re sorta the secondary cast, heh.
At the end of #20 there was the conversation between Brainiac (Collector of Worlds), Kylstar (First Leader) and a Orb-One. Is Orb-One simply that orb alerting Kylstar at the end of this issue? Or is that still to be revealed in the arc?
By Christopher Jones, November 11, 2012 @ 11:19 pm
Thanks again. It’s been fun to get a chance to draw some of the League members.
Hopefully the relationship between Brainiac and Kylstar will become more clear as the story unfolds. Keep reading!
