Young Justice #12 out today!

…and I didn’t draw it. Well I drew the cover, but the interior has “fill-in” art by another artist.

When  I started on the book it was about a month behind schedule, and month after month we just weren’t able to pull enough ahead to make up an issue in the schedule. So, we got a fill-in issue and I jumped directly from drawing #11 to Young Justice #13.

The good news for me is that starting with issue #14 I’m inking the interiors in addition to penciling them. I’m just finishing up the inks on #14 now while penciling issue #15. I can’t wait for everyone to see how that looks (although I’ve inked all my covers on this title, so the look shouldn’t be too startling), but that’s a couple of issues off.

In the meantime, Young Justice #12 is written by the regular team of Greg Weisman and Kevin Hopps, and continues the storyline wiht Ra’s al Ghul, Talia al Ghul and Clayface begun last issue. It’s a good read and I recommend checking it out. I’ll be back drawing the interiors next month with part three of our Clayface epic!

As always, you can pick up the comic in digital form or at your local comic shop, and questions and comments are always welcome!

That’s right, Ocean Master is on the scene, and that’s bad news for Atlantis. There’s a TON of characters in this who will be familiar to long-time DC Comics fans. I can’t wait for you all to see it!

Young Justice Volume 1 is OUT!

Despite being originally scheduled for January 17, it looks like the trade paperback collecting the first seven issues (#0-6) of Young Justice came out yesterday!

As I’ve mentioned before, my run on the title began with issue #5, so only two of my stories are featured in this collection, but it’s all a great read and I recommend you pick it up! The cover art (seen below) isn’t by me, it’s by Mike Norton who drew the first five issues of the series.

You can pick it up at your local comic shop, or if that’s not an option, it’s also available at Amazon.com. The 7-issue collection retails for $12.99.

A glowing review of Young Justice #11 from BW Media.

And a positive review of Young Justice #11 from Mild Mannered Reviews.

That Mild Mannered review was a little critical of the story largely because so much of the focus of the issue was Robin having a solo adventure with Batman and we didn’t see much of the rest of the team. I can understand that, but I think it’s fun seeing more of the TV show’s characters outside of the group adventures seen on the show. Future issues of the comic will features subsets of the whole team and split the group up in various ways. And the events of Young Justice #11 develop over the next two issues into a storyline that involves everybody. So I’m curious what readers (and reviewers) will think as we get deeper into the series.

What do YOU think? Is the Young Justice tie-in comic a good place to give team members a moment to stand in the spotlight solo, or do you just want to see team adventures that resemble what is seen on the TV show?
