Busy busy busy
Since getting back from the Gallifrey One convention last month I’ve been ridiculously busy and haven’t had time to make any posts to this blog. I should be able to get some blog entries written up by the tail end of these week and get back in the game here. I’ve been busy with all good stuff, not the least of which has been my new inking duties on Young Justice in addition to the penciling I’ve been doing since issue #5.
There will be a Young Justice section as part of the DC Nation book DC Comics is producing for Free Comic Book Day in May. The Young Justice pages of the FCBD book are an early peek at the Young Justice #16 and feature Robin, Batman, Artemis and Green Arrow. The sequence is written by the usual team of Greg Weisman and Kevin Hopps, penciled and inked by me, and colored by Zac Atkinson.
I just saw the color art on those pages and Zac has done it again – I can’t wait for everyone to see how great these pages look! (The tiny image of Robin above is about as much as I figure I can show you without getting in trouble!) I hope the FCBD exposure encourages more people to check out the regular series.
There’s great things coming up in Young Justice. The upcoming Atlantis 2-parter features the debut of my inking on the book (not counting covers which I’ve been inking since I started on the title), and features a ton of new characters. I’ve got lots of blog entries to do on recent covers, character designs, and all kinds of stuff from Young Justice.
I even did a 10-page story for the first issue of the new Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes book, based on the current Avengers animated TV series. (NOTE TO EDITORS: Hey, I CAN do comics not based on TV shows! Really!) It looks great, and I can’t wait for you all to see it. I can’t tell you what classic Marvel monster-villain it features, but his initials are F.F.F!
Anyway, it’s back to work for me right now, but keep an eye out for new entries very, very soon!

Oh, the FCBD issue is not not an original story just a selection from #16?

Consider it a tease. A preview of coming attractions. And it’s free!

I’m pretty sure everyone can understand you have other things to do, we’re just thankful you want to tell us your side of the stories. No original story for the FCBD issue is a bummer, but not unusual. Last thing we would want is two hurried stories instead of one good one.
I am really looking forward to those tons and tons of Atlantean characters. Fingers crossed for Lisa Morel and Jerro the Merboy.

It’s not that I thought people wouldn’t understand… I’ve been frustrated that I haven’t had time to keep up on blog entries. I’ve got so much good stuff to write about now!
Don’t stress your fingers too much hoping for Lisa Morel and Jerro the Merboy. But hopefully you’ll enjoy the characters who DO turn up. I’ve seen the finished color at for the issue and it’s GORGEOUS. I think it’s the best-looking issue of the title to date.

Good point.. It’s not like the news dissuaded me from trying to get myself a copy of the issue in May (Besides, people will sell them online despite it being free).
Question on #13 – I was looking for that ‘Hal 025’ you seem to put in all the issues and was wondering what ‘Bichel Co.’ came from. Was that scripted by Mr. Weisman, from the comics, or one of yours?
#14 sounds like a lot of fun. I recall it’s been teased for awhile now. It’ll be interesting to see how the colors compare to that murkiness they did with “Downtime” and from what I hear learn more about Atlantis and its inhabitants.

“Every issue?” I thought I’d only done the “Hal 025” thing the one time! Both that and “Bichel Co.” are references to my girlfriend. So that *wasn’t* from me. Although there IS a reference coming up in YJ #16 that very much relates to my life that was scripted by the good Mr. Weisman!
I think the Atlantis in the comic is a little brighter than the episode Downtime, although hopefully it still all feels like the same Atlantis. We DO got to visit a different city in Atlantis.

Okay, maybe not every issue, heh. I remember at least two instances, on a license plate and on the Cape Canaveral rocket. But thanks for the head’s up about it. Pretty cool easter eggs for your girlfriend.
By Christopher Jones, March 8, 2012 @ 2:00 am
OK, I forgot about Cape Canaveral. But that’s twice in ten issues! I hadn’t intended to make that speciic reference a running gag, so I wouldn’t strain your eyes continuing to look for it every issue!

That reference coming up in #16… would that be the TARDIS we saw in Insecurity?
btw, your Captchas are becoming increasingly more difficult to read.
By Christopher Jones, April 11, 2012 @ 12:17 pm
Nope, not a TARDIS reference.
Sorry about the Captchas. I’m trying to filter out the massive amounts of spam I seem to be attracting. I’ll try to find a better balance…
